Customer Experience
HPC serves 26 different industries in which each customer has their own set of unique standards. This requires a company that can adapt and be flexible to the greater demand and customization in today’s ever changing business climate.
A 40+ year history in the injection molding industry has created a solid foundation to build upon for the future. In 2015, HPC relocated to a 136,000 square foot building that has 21 docks along with two silos on a pad built for four. Inside two 10-ton cranes move tools to the various 70+ molding machines ranging from 28 to 500 ton. The facility is laid out so that HPC has plenty of room to grow with the various needs of customers.
The Value Stream Process begins with a central loading material system feeds resin to the machines on the floor. Scientific decoupled molding is the foundation of Hansen Plastics to ensure part quality by utilizing pressure cavity transducers in tooling. After the part is molded, HPC² is instrumental in taking a project to the next level via other manufacturing processes which include assembly and decoration.
The central loading system that manages the needs for greater demand and customization revolves around three distinct and unique value streams, Red, White and Blue. The value streams consist of putting similar jobs together, looking at items such run hours, type of material, number of changeovers, labor needed, complexity of project, automation needs and engineering needs. Those are just a few variables that are analyzed prior to putting a job in a value stream at Hansen Plastics. The value streams are equipped with a multi-faceted team of employee owners: value stream leader, purchasing, scheduling, engineering, quality, maintenance and tool makers.
Every project is different and can move between the three value streams. The technical team at Hansen Plastics will review each project and decide which stream will be most efficient for said part. Serving customers from over 26 different industries means HPC needs processes in place to handle a greater demand for customization. Our robust ERP system helps us manage this demand. We are capable of anything from small boxes (6” x 6” x 6”) to larger boxes (48” x 40” x 38”) to customer supplied returnable packaging.   Our new 136,000 sq. ft. facility allows two separate areas for receiving and shipping. Each area is strategically placed to maximize the flow from each value stream. In addition, HPC now has more docks to accommodate a greater demand and customization required by our diversified customer base. At Hansen Plastics, we make sure to get logistics involved from the beginning when taking on new customers, as it helps us understand customer values and maximize our warehousing capabilities.
Warehouse Space
The HPC facility is designed to maintain warehousing for our customers. We are equipped with racks that have narrow aisles to help maximize space in the finished goods area, while still being wide enough for a turret truck to pick up and place goods at any height. Our ERP system assists in managing the process of certain raw materials, to tell whether it’s in warehouse, on the manufacturing floor, or in finished goods.
Hansen Plastics Corporation is located in the Chicagoland area, close to four major airports (O’Hare, Midway, Milwaukee, and Rockford). HPC is easily accessible off I-90 and close to many major markets. Our products are shipped domestically and internationally, serving customers worldwide.
